The Business Challenge

A family-owned business in Newhall, California, Poka Dott helped customers celebrate all kinds of events — from graduations to wedding anniversaries to birthdays. But the owners themselves had little cause for celebration. In fact, they were already $250K in debt and had a second mortgage on their home.

Operating on a shoestring budget, the small party shop could barely afford to serve its existing customers — much less any new ones. They were unable to add modern touches, like personalized T-shirts and giveaways, to their on-site party services. Managing inventory was also a huge headache. How could this business ever be turned around?

With multiple systems on a secure network, the new point-of-sale (POS) solution improved everything from customer checkouts to inventory management. Plus, a Dell Latitude laptop — with Intel^® Centrino^® Mobile Technology™ was set up for in-store customization and linked to a Dell multifunction printer for superb output.
